About Colour Management

A colour management system is software that creates profiles that ensure colour consistency and repeatablity across all devices in a production workflow. Using a correct colour management system will ensure the output is as accurate as possible in relation to the screen.

Firstly the screen (or monitor) is calibrated and a monitor profile is created. We use the Monaco Optix Colour Management system for this, which combines a colorimeter device and profiling software to make a monitor profile. Then we use printer profiles (created using Monaco Proof software) which are added to files prior to printing.

Printer profiles are files containing data which describes how an output device handles or distorts colour. Profiles are used by colour management applications to correct the passage of colour through a device, in simple terms it makes the output match or be as close as possible to the image on the screen.

What you need to do

Calibrate your monitor and set your files up as per our file specifications.

For monitor calibration, we have two methods we suggest. The first, which is recommended, is to use software such as the Monaco Optix which will create a monitor profile for your specific monitor.
The second is to use the visual method, which is not as accurate but will give an indication of how your monitor is looking compared to a print made from a file.

In both cases, use sRGB or Adobe RGB 1998 for your RGB colour working space in 'Adobe Photoshop'.

Method One - Software Calibration

What we then do

After your monitor is calibrated and your files are setup according to our file specifications we will add then appropriate printer profile depending on the service you require prior to printing. This will ensure what you see on your screen will be as close as possible to the print you receive.
